Portsmouth Climate Action – Digital Content Creator

July 2025 – Present

1. Finding and Securing the Role

I understood that moving into a new environment would be a challenge, and as a video editor I needed to build real-world experience in content production. I felt that a volunteering position would be a strong starting point to develop my skills. I discovered the Digital Content Creator role through the university’s MyCareer platform and applied for it. I began working with Portsmouth Climate Action in July 2025 and continue to work with them to this day.

2. Portsmouth Climate Champions Series

One of the main projects I worked on was the Climate Champions series. In this project, myself and the team contacted and visited local businesses that actively support environmental sustainability. This included Herbies Health Store, which promotes eco-friendly products, and Library of Things, a service that allows people to borrow tools and equipment instead of buying new items, reducing waste. My role in this project was primarily as a video editor. I reviewed all recorded footage and edited the final videos using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. I was responsible for assembling interviews, improving pacing, and ensuring the final output was engaging and clear. The Climate Champions series is planned for future release once all episodes have been completed, ensuring a consistent structure and cohesive final series.

3. Street Interviews (Public Climate Opinions)

In addition to the Climate Champions series, I also took part in independent street interview filming. This involved approaching members of the public and asking their views on climate change and environmental issues in order to capture authentic public opinions. For this, I prepared a risk assessment for the university and independently organised equipment such as a camera and microphone. I was responsible for recording both video and audio during these sessions. These street interview recordings are also planned for future release once all episodes have been finalised.

4. Portsmouth Volunteering Fayre

I also attended the Portsmouth Volunteering Fayre, where I represented Portsmouth Climate Action. My responsibilities included engaging with visitors, distributing informational materials about climate change, and encouraging people to join our organisation. Through this event, we successfully recruited over 30 people into our WhatsApp group, helping to grow community engagement and awareness around climate action initiatives.

5. Additional Media Work (Poem Project)

Alongside this, I worked on a project involving the recording and editing of a spoken-word poem about Portsmouth’s history as a cycling city. The poem referenced R. L. Seagar and was designed to highlight the city’s past environmental identity. I was responsible for recording the performance and editing the final piece to ensure clear audio quality and visual presentation. This piece was published on Facebook as part of Portsmouth Climate Action’s social media output.
